Requirements for Out-of-State Licensees

Course Requirements & Waivers

Are you a real estate salesman already licensed in another state who wants to know what is
required for a Nevada salesman license? By now you've talked to a dozen people and have gotten
a dozen different answers, right? We've made it easy for you...

If you completed the required pre-license course in California, you only need to take the
NV Law & Ethics course (the NV Real Estate Division will accept the Practices & Principles course
you did in California).

If you completed the required pre-license courses in any of these states, you do not need
to take any license courses for Nevada:

AZ, DE, ID, KY, LA, OH, TX, UT, WV;

You can simply take the Nevada license exam and then mail in your license application.  In fact, you
only need to take the state law portion of the license exam (40 questions on Nevada statutes).  We
still suggest you take the Nevada Law course we offer to study from since you will probably fail the
state portion of the license exam if you do not study.

If your state is not in the list above, but you have taken a pre-license course titled "Practices & Principles"
that was 45 hours or more, Nevada will accept it. You will only need to take the 45 hour Nevada pre-license
course
. This course is offered online and costs $230. If the course you took was not titled
"Practices & Principles" or was not 45 hours or more, Nevada will not accept it and you must take the full
90 hour course.

If your state was not in the list above and you have not taken a 45 hour Practices & Principles course, you
will have to take the 90 hour Nevada pre-license course. This course is offered online and costs $299.

Exam Waiver

If you've taken a real estate salesman license exam in another state and want to get out of taking the exam
again in Nevada here's how it works...

Nevada's license exam is made up of 2 parts: state law (40 questions/1 hour) and national law (80 questions/2hours).  If you have taken a salesman exam and acquired a license that is currently active and in
good standing in any of the following states you only need to take the state portion of the Nevada exam:
AZ, DE, ID, KY, LA, OH, TX, UT, WV.

If you have taken a real estate salesman license exam in any state not listed above within 365 days of taking
your Nevada exam, you only need to take the state portion. The 365 days starts counting from the day you
took the exam.

If you have taken a real estate salesman license exam in any state not listed above and more than 365 days
has elapsed, you must take both the state and national portions of the Nevada exam.
